Danner Windows chooses Timberlane Shutters to enhance the curb appeal of "our nation's oldest residential street."
Elfreth's Alley is a historical landmark in Old City Philadelphia, designated as our nation's oldest residential street. In addition to the street itself, several of the individual homes have received this designation as well. This particular home is one of the "youngest" on the block and dates back to the very first days of the eighteenth century. This single unit replaced two previous buildings on the lot, both of which had been homes of bakers.

On this home you will see a combination of fixed louvers and custom panel shutters. Our 3-panel configuration custom shutters are decorated with functional hardware, tilt-rods and mouse holes, which are options with fixed louvers, but standard with operable louvers. These fully functional Western Red Cedar shutters, painted with one of our standard colors, really red, not only met with enthusiastic approval from the homeowner, but also passed through all the historical specifications and approval channels (and trust us, historical boards in Philadelphia are rather stringent, as you might have guessed).
The next time you are in the Philadelphia area we urge you to stop by this historical landmark. Not only because it's our nation's oldest residential street, but because you will see our window shutters hanging flawlessly on this home, as well as several others on this short alley block.
